Lobby, Campaign and Advocacy

Kapaeeng Foundation has been conducting lobby and campaign programme for promotion and protection of human rights of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh aiming at promoting the respect, recognition and protection of the individual and collective rights of indigenous peoples; making awareness amongst mainstream population on the identity, rights and culture of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh and highlighting true identity, rights and culture of indigenous peoples with an aim to wipe out discriminatory information on indigenous peoples. Kapaeeng’s advocacy initiatives also involve engaging with national, regional and international networks and UN bodies on indigenous issues. Following activities as part of lobby, campaign and advocacy programme were implemented-

  • Regional Consultations on ILO convention No.107 and 169 and Indigenous Peoples Issues in Bangladesh organised on 10 March 2011 at Family Planning Association Auditorium, Ghasipara, Dinajpur organized by Jatiya Adibasi Parishad and Kapaeeng Foundation (KF) in cooperation with International Labour Organization, Bangladesh
  • A program on ‘Observance of International Human Rights Day and Launching the Human Rights Report 2009-2010 on Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh’ organised on 11 December 2010 at Bangladesh Planning Academy Auditorium in Dhaka with the support of Oxfam-GB. Justice Mohammad Gholam Rabbani was present as chief guest.
  • National Committee for observing the death anniversary of M N Larma, headed by Justice Mohammad Gholam Rabbani, undertook two day programs in 9 and 10 November 2010 marking the 27th death anniversary of Manabendra Narayan Larma, a great pioneer of indigenous peoples. Kapaeeng Foundation supported facilitation in forming the National Committee and in observing the anniversary.
  • Discussion meeting on indigenous peoples of Bangladesh and their rights of constitutional recognition organised on 5 November 2010 at Rajshahi Camber of Commerce and Industries Auditorium in Rajshahi. This meeting was jointly organized by Jatiyo Adivasi Parishad and Kapaeeng Foundation with the support of Oxfam-GB
  • Discussion on Traditional Land Rights, CHT Accord and Constitutional Rights of Indigenous Peoples jointly organised with Movement for CHT Land Rights and Forest, Khagrachari District Headmen Association and Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods on 1 November 2010 at National Press Club in Dhaka
  • Day-long Regional Consultation on ILO Conventions and Indigenous Peoples’ Issues in Bangladesh organised by Kapaeeng Foundation and Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum with the support of International Labour Organization on 2 August 2010 at Sushilan Training Center of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district
  • Workshop on Land Problems of CHT and its solutions organised on 23-24 July 2010 in Rangamati jointly with Forest and Land Movement of CHT, Khagracghari District Headmen Association and Voluntary Service Overseas
  • Day-long Regional Consultation on ILO Conventions No.107 and 169 and Indigenous Peoples Issues in Bangladesh organised by Kapaeeng Foundation and International Labour Organisation (ILO) on 25 June 2010 at the Chandpur Shilpakala Academy Auditorium in Chandpur district
  • Roundtable discussion on Land Problems of Indigenous Peoples of Plains and its way forward organised jointly with Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, ActionAid Bangladesh and Gram Bikash Kendra at CIRDAP Auditorium in Dhaka on 16 February 2010
  • Discussion meeting organised in National Press Club in Dhaka on Indigenous peoples of Bangladesh and their ‘indigenous’ identity: legal and human rights perspectives on 7 June 2010 with the support of Oxfam-GB. Barrister Raja Devasish Roy presented key note paper on this subject. The main objective of this discussion was to accelerate the consciousness about the identity issue of indigenous people all over the country
  • Regional Consultation on ILO Conventions No.107 and 169 and Indigenous Peoples Issues in Bangladesh organised on 7 November 2009 at Bandarban Hill District Council Auditorium in Bandarban district with the support of ILO Dhaka office
  • Seminar on ‘Government’s commitment to implement the CHT Accord and Active Popular Support’ jointly organized by Kapaeeng Foundation and Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD) at the National Press Club in Dhaka on 31 March 2009. A road map was declared for implementation of CHT Accord and a memorandum was sent to the Prime Minister urging to implement CHT Accord as per proposed road map
  • Roundtable discussion on CHT Accord and its present Situation jointly organised with ALRD at WVA Auditorium in Dhaka 28 November 2008
  • Discussion marking World Human Rights Day organised on 10 December 2005 in Rangamati
  • Workshop on “Land Right Issues in the Chittagong Hill Tracts” organised on 23-24 November 2005 in Rangamati jointly with HTNF, MfPFLR, Taungya, Maleya and Mrochet
  • Rally and Discussion marking the International Day for World’s Indigenous Peoples orgnaised on 9 August 2005 in Rangamati
  • Rally and Discussion marking the International Mother Tongue Day orgnised on 21 February 2005 in Rangamati jointly with Hill Tracts NGO Forum (HTNF), Jum Aesthetics Council (JAC) and CARE-Bangladesh
